Following on from a passion for Technical Drawing at high school, along with the influence of a Dad with a background in Mechanical Design, I consequently studied at Waikato Technical Institute then pursued a career in Architecture almost 40 years ago. Of course during that period, skillset and experience evolved on a drawing board with the use of tracing paper, clutch pencils and ink pens. These skills provided a foundation for meticulousness and presentation. In 2004 after a break from the industry I decided to revisit my passion for Architecture and re-connect with my chosen career “boots and all”, upskilling to CAD design and drawing. My genre of work includes Residential Design along with Commercial/Industrial Design. The process comprises Concept Design through to Working Drawings for construction. Including myself I have a team of 5 with varying skills and duties.

OUR PROCESS
- Initial Client meeting to establish a working relationship and discussing the engagement of my Architectural services for the particular work.
- Either during the initial meeting or subsequent post meeting, a design brief and wish list will be discussed intail. A site visit will also be undertaken or proposed.
- Thought processing on my part begins early and grows as ideas evolve. I then begin with good old fashioned tracing paper, a clutch pencil and rubber, sketching and developing an initial design while working with the Design Brief.
- I then transpose these sketches into the computer in CAD format using a comprehensive CAD modelling package which enable the design to be viewed in 3D as it is developing.
- Several site visits may be imminent during this initial design process period to ensure the evolving design captures the needs of the site and surrounds, along with ticking off client wish list boxes.
- Once Initial Concept Plans are completed these are presented to the client for discussion and feedback.
- If any modifications or tweaks are required to the concept these are finalised and completed.
- We then move the concept to Working Drawings stage which involves comprehensive detailing, notations and calculations, providing relevant information for construction. This also may involve working alongside industry based colleagues such as Engineers, Planning Consultants and others.
- The completed Working Drawings are then firstly presented to the client for viewing and then lodged to Council for Application of Building Consent.
- It is always rewarding to follow the build progress through and finally admire the completed project.
CLIENT – WILD STAG VALLEY
WOW! Look at our house. It’s hard to believe we live here let alone own the place. It’s the brainchild of Jackie Robinson who cleverly designed it from a roughly written list of “I want” and a bunch of pictures of houses we liked the look of. We spoke with 4 or 5 house designers before choosing to work with Jackie. The choice was actually easy. She was the only one that willingly engaged with our out of the ordinary “wants”. We now live in a home that boasts a Max Raft floor, some serious wall and ceiling insulation, triple-glazed tilt and turn windows and doors from Europe, a bank of solar panels and integrated heating and ventilation systems that provide for complete indoor climate control. These design features have completely redefined the term “a warm dry house”. We absolutely love the end result. It’s been a pleasure having you involved Jackie, thank you.
